Job Description

Local Progress and the Local Progress Impact Lab work collectively to advance a racial and economic justice agenda through all levels of government. Local Progress (LP) is a movement of more than 1,500 local elected officials advancing a racial and economic justice agenda through all levels of local government. The Local Progress Impact Lab (the Impact Lab) brings together local leaders, partners, and experts to build the knowledge, skills, and leadership needed to advance racial and economic justice at the local level.

Project Overview:

Local Progress is seeking a Healing Justice Consultant (or a team of consultants) to curate and facilitate healing spaces for our members during the Local Progress National Convening, which will be held July 10–12, 2025 in Chicago, IL , and beyond the Convening via additional in-person and remote spaces. (details to be determined).

As part of Local Progress’ work to build a platform for multi-racial organizing, caucuses are formed with the intention of building community, creating a safe healing space where members are able to deepen their connections, provide peer mentorship, share best practices to advance racial and gender equity, celebrate one another and contribute to the larger network. These caucuses also help us organize LP members with deeper intention around the intersections of race, class, and gender and can create an avenue through which to engage LP alumni once they are elected to higher office or no longer hold an elected position. Currently, we have a Black Caucus , Women’s Caucus , Nuestro Caucus and the Pride Caucus in formation.

Our members — local elected officials across the country — are on the front lines of advancing justice in their communities. They face regular attacks, carry immense responsibility, and often work under intense pressure. We believe that in order to sustain bold leadership, we must invest in our members’ well-being and create opportunities for rest, reflection, and restoration.

The consultant will work in collaboration with LP staff and LP members to design and lead grounding and healing experiences rooted in trauma-informed practice, with an emphasis on multiple modalities, such as but not limited to, journaling, somatics, breathwork, verbal processing, sound, and movement.
