Job Description

Drive Projects Forward with Ground-Level Landwork

At Halo Land Management, we don’t just secure access — we build the pathways that make progress possible. As a Permit Agent, you’ll play a key role in supporting critical infrastructure and energy projects by coordinating with local, state, and federal agencies to obtain the necessary approvals for construction, operation, and maintenance of new and existing facilities.

Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Canton, Ohio, Halo is one of America’s fastest-growing land service providers. We bring together deep industry expertise, regional insight, and a people-first culture to power complex energy initiatives. Our Permit Agents are trusted representatives who ensure projects move forward smoothly, compliantly, and on schedule.

A Day in the Life: Process, People, and Progress

Your day starts with reviewing upcoming permit deadlines and cross-checking documentation for accuracy. By mid-morning, you’re engaging with county or state agencies to discuss right-of-way, zoning, or utility approvals. Later, you’re coordinating with engineers and landowners to ensure submissions meet technical and regulatory standards.

Whether you’re processing bond or insurance requests, interpreting jurisdictional policies, or tracking the status of multiple permits, your attention to detail and communication skills keep projects compliant, organized, and moving forward.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with governmental agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals for the construction, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure projects.
  • Review and interpret zoning ordinances, land division regulations, and jurisdictional policies impacting real estate and right-of-way activities.
  • Prepare, process, and track permit applications, certificates of insurance, and performance bonds.
  • Communicate and collaborate with project managers, engineers, attorneys, and landowners to resolve permitting or compliance issues.
  • Ensure all permitting activities adhere to company standards, client expectations, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate, organized documentation and databases for all active permits and submissions.
  • Draft, review, and send correspondence to agencies and stakeholders, ensuring professionalism and clarity.
  • Utilize client or company-provided systems, templates, and workflows to track progress and meet deadlines.

What Success Looks Like

  • Permits are submitted and approved accurately and on time.
  • Regulatory requirements and compliance standards are consistently met.
  • Agency and stakeholder relationships are managed with professionalism and transparency.
  • Project teams receive clear, timely updates on permit status and outstanding actions.
  • Organized documentation and digital records are maintained for audit readiness.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in the Right-of-Way, Land, or Real Estate industry, with at least 1 year as a Permit or Zoning Agent.
  • Working knowledge of zoning, utility permitting, and land division processes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret real estate documents, legal descriptions, and construction drawings.
  • Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and document management platforms.
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.
  • AAPL membership preferred.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working on utility, oil & gas, or renewable energy permitting.
  • Familiarity with e-permitting portals and GIS tools.
  • Understanding of environmental, construction, and right-of-way regulations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Previous experience coordinating bonding, insurance, or compliance documentation.
